What's your background in photography?
I have a strong base in film photography and historic photographic processes -- I've used 35mm, 120mm, and 4x5 film throughout my career and formerly worked as an assistant at a photogravure atelier. I got hooked after I shot my first roll of black & white film in the New Hampshire woods in 1997 and went on to hone my skills in the art-focused photography program at Sarah Lawrence College. I've exhibited and curated work in galleries the United States, Italy, and the Czech Republic, where I first came for an artist residency in 2010. I now primarily shoot on a full frame DSLR but still adore shooting film of all kinds.
What's your approach?
Every shoot is different -- but they all incorporate a balance of reportage style shooting, posed shots and some adventuring. I like to collaborate; it's important to me to get to know you in order to make the work more authentic and personal. My style is heavily influenced by my base in art photography, literature, and art history in general -- that is, narrative-driven and exploratory.
